Reducing electricity losses in low-voltage distribution networks (0.4 kV)
GRID-IN is a software suite that analyses smart-metering (AMI) data to reduce electricity losses. It detects non-technical losses — meter tampering, illegal connections and meter faults — and calculates technical losses in every network section. It uses the data the metering system already collects and requires no additional equipment. The result is a list of sites for field inspection with the address, the type of irregularity and an estimate of the unmetered energy, together with the network sections with high technical losses and overload.

PREPData preparationChecks the completeness and validity of readings, corrects typical export errors and reconciles metering data with the single-line diagram.
Validated load profiles, event logs and billing data; a digital network model.
GRIDCOBalance groupsBuilds and verifies balance groups: the actual connection of each customer to a distribution transformer, derived from metering data.
Discrepancies between the recorded and the actual connection.
GRIDJOEnergy balance methodCorrelation and regression analysis of the load profiles in a balance group, without the network diagram.
Meters showing signs of under-registration, faulty meters and meters outside the group; an estimate of the unmetered energy.
GRIDSOStatistical analysisAnalysis of load profiles, meter event logs and billing data.
Signs of meter tampering, meter faults and cryptocurrency-mining loads.
GRIDTONetwork load flowLoad-flow calculation of the 0.4 kV network from the single-line diagram: currents, voltages and losses in every section and node.
Technical losses and overload by section; sections with unmetered consumption, signs of illegal connections.
FUSIONResult fusionCombines the results of all methods and ranks the targets by inspection priority.
A single list of inspection targets.
OUTPUTDeliveryPresents the results in the workplace, on mobile devices and in files.
Lists and a map of sites; an application programming interface (API).
Input data
- Load profiles of customer meters and the transformer feeder — the minimum required
- Meter event logs — improve the reliability of the result
- Billing data — monthly consumption
- Single-line diagram and map data — for the load-flow calculation
Results
- Sites with signs of meter tampering and an estimate of the unmetered energy
- Faulty meters and meters outside the balance group
- The actual assignment of meters to distribution transformers
- Customers with statistically abnormal load profiles, including cryptocurrency mining
- Network sections with high technical losses and overload
- Currents and voltages by network section; sections with unmetered consumption
